What 7-OH withdrawal looks like — symptoms, timeline, and the shape of the first two weeks.

What’s actually happening to your body

7-OH is a potent mu-opioid receptor agonist that binds 13 to 22 times more strongly than morphine. Your body adapted to its constant presence. When you stop, your opioid receptors are temporarily underactive while your nervous system rebalances. That mismatch is what withdrawal feels like. Your brain isn’t broken. It’s adjusting. The receptors recover. Endorphin production comes back online. The discomfort is real, time-limited, and part of a process that ends.

The general timeline

Everyone’s different, but most people coming off 7-OH follow a similar shape:

  • 6 to 12 hours after last dose: first symptoms. Anxiety, restlessness, sweating, runny nose, mild aches.
  • Days 2 to 4: symptoms peak. Insomnia, body aches, GI upset, restless legs, temperature swings, mood shifts. Brain zaps and a “wired but exhausted” feeling are common from the SNRI-like activity of kratom’s minor alkaloids.
  • Days 5 to 7: acute physical symptoms fade. Sleep and mood still rough.
  • Week 2 onward: physical symptoms mostly resolve. Energy, mood, sleep, and motivation rebuild over weeks. This is the PAWS phase, see #paws-support & #what-is-paws. Acute symptoms typically last 3 to 7 days. Emotional recovery and sleep can take 2 to 3 weeks.

  • Hydrate aggressively. Electrolytes, not just water.
  • Sleep when you can. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t.
